Working with other departments and agencies, the Office for Women plays a key role in developing and coordinating the Australian Government’s policy advice on international matters relating to gender equality and women’s empowerment, including:
- Promoting women and girls human rights at a range of international forums including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
- Meeting Australia’s reporting requirements under a number of international conventions, resolutions and other agreements including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BDPFA).
- Coordinating the delivery and implementation of the Australian National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security 2012–2018.
In partnership with the international community, the Australian Government will continue to pursue the best way forward to promote progress for all women and girls globally.
