About the Strategy

Thumbnail image of National Security Science and Innovation Strategy cover page The National Security Science and Innovation Strategy aims to enhance the application of science and innovation to national security.  It establishes a unified set of national security objectives for science and innovation and an annual process for the national security community to communicate their science and innovation priorities to researchers, entrepreneurs and funding programs.  The Strategy will facilitate better collaboration, more relevant research and development, and the enhancement of required research capabilities.

The development of the Strategy was announced by the Prime Minister in the inaugural National Security Statement, delivered to Parliament on 4 December 2008.  Extensive consultation across all levels of government and with academic, private sector and international partners has informed its preparation. The Strategy was agreed to by the National Security Committee of Cabinet and publicly launched on 24 November 2009 by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Byrne MP.
