On behalf of Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, Minister for Women, the Office for Women announces that the non-government delegates selected to join the official Australian Government delegation to the 61st session of the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61) are:

Ms Jahna Cedar
Jahna Cedar

Ms. Cedar serves as an Executive Officer at Gumala Aboriginal Corporation and has worked and advocated for gender equality and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reconciliation for over 18 years. Ms. Cedar’s achievements are marked by her induction into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame (2012).

 

Ms. Elizabeth Shaw
Elizabeth Shaw

Ms. Shaw serves as the current President of UN Women Australia and is the youngest woman to hold the position. Ms. Shaw has published widely on gender issues and presented on diversity and inclusion options around Australia and at the UN. In 2016, she was listed as one of Australia’s ‘100 Women of Influence’ by AFR and Westpac.

 

Ms Leann Wilson
Leann Wilson

Ms Wilson serves as Executive Director of Business Development and Innovation for Regional Economic Solutions. Ms. Wilson has worked extensively to progress the opportunities and advancement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia and to further the cause of women’s leadership and empowerment.

 

CSW is the highest level international forum on gender equality and women’s empowerment which meets annually in New York. CSW61 will be held from 13-24 March 2017.

The priority theme for CSW61 is: Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work.

The review theme for CSW61 is: Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls.

The focus area for CSW61 is: The empowerment of Indigenous women.
