Australians must be equipped with cyber security skills and knowledge to thrive in a digital age.

In September, the first Women in Cyber Mentoring event was held, promoting cyber security as a dynamic career path in an effort to increase diversity and tackle the cyber skills shortage. To complement this event, the new Women in Cyber Security website was launched, featuring personal stories from women in the field as well as opportunities for engagement.

The CSIRO’s Data61 has led the way in boosting cyber skills, teaming with the Australian Institute of Company Directors to lift digital and cyber literacy of boards through a cyber-security training program.

The annual Stay Smart Online Week was held in October, with a range of activities held nationwide to raise awareness of cyber safety. During the week, new guides were launched, tailored to the needs of individuals and small businesses.

Lastly, the Australian Cyber Security Centre launched the 2016 Threat Report, describing the threat to Australian governments, business and critical infrastructure and providing mitigation advice.
