The Building Exterior Shell Training (BEST) covers Oregon’s water intrusion problem and strategies for prevention of water intrusion in new construction. It explains the new requirements, specified by the State Legislature in 2010, and gives insight into techniques and methods used with the required air-tight construction. The presentation includes lecture, videos, reading material and class discussion. Students will be asked to answer questions, based on the information presented. The Building Codes section teaches the student how to use the 2011 Residential Specialty Code–online. Students will be asked a series of questions and then have the opportunity to look-up answers in the online code. By the end of class, participants will have an understanding of exactly what the software is capable of doing. The classes are not graded; however, both are “Core” classes and are required by the State, to fulfill the continuing education requirements.
