FOI Requests
This page outlines general information about making request to other departments and agencies. For requests specific to PM&C please refer to FOI request to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
In general terms, to make an FOI request you should:
- Identify the documents you want and which federal government agency is most likely to hold them. Agencies have special FOI officers who can assist you in making your request, and their contact details are given here.
- Write out the request giving as much information as you can about the documents you want (for example, give a file number, a reference to a newspaper report about it or describe the subject matter in which you are interested) and give an address in Australia where correspondence can be sent to you. Some agencies have special forms for making requests. A Sample Application Form is available but you do not have to use it. You can just write a letter.
Sample Application Form: Word 23KB | PDF 62KB - Post or deliver your request to the agency enclosing the $30 application fee (in certain instances the fee is not required or can be remitted - see the Questions and Answers page).
