Mr Terry Moran AO (Advisory Group Chair)
Mr Moran was appointed as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in February 2008. Mr Moran has had a varied career as a public servant, working with successive Australian and State governments, with roles in public policy and public sector management. In July 2000, Mr Moran was appointed Secretary of the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. He has a strong interest in public policy capacity and helped establish the Australia and New Zealand School of Government – a joint initiative by six governments and ten universities – in 2003.
Mr Chris Blake
Mr Blake was appointed as Executive General Manager, Business Strategy and People, Wholesale Banking, at the National Australia Bank in March 2009. Prior to this he worked in several other senior roles at the NAB. Mr Blake also worked with PriceWaterhouse Coopers for 20 years, the last ten as a Partner. He has a strong professional interest in aligning ‘people’ strategies with broader business strategies.
Professor Glyn Davis AC
Professor Davis is Vice Chancellor and President of the University of Melbourne. He previously served in a number of public service roles, most recently as Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Queensland. Professor Davis has taught and researched public policy issues, including as a Harkness Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 2008 he served as co-chair of the Australia 2020 Summit.
Ms Jo Evans
Ms Evans has worked at the Assistant Secretary level in the Department of the Environment and Heritage, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and currently in the International Division of the Department of Climate Change. Prior to joining the APS in 2000 she worked as an Associate for McKinsey & Company, including projects in banking and resource management.
Dr Ken Henry AC
Dr Henry was appointed Secretary to the Treasury in April 2001. He is Chair of the Review into Australia’s Future Tax System, member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia and member of the Board of Taxation. He is Australia’s Alternate Governor at the IMF. Dr Henry has held a range of positions within Treasury and was Minister (Economic and Financial Affairs) in the Australian delegation to the OECD. He was a senior adviser in the Office of the Treasurer from 1986 to 1991.
Ms Robyn Kruk AM
Ms Kruk is currently Secretary of the Commonwealth Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts portfolio. She has served as the Director-General of NSW Health and the Director-General of NSW National Parks and Wildlife. Robyn also held executive positions in both the NSW Cabinet Office and the Department of Premier and Cabinet, culminating as Director-General of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Ms Carmel McGregor
Ms McGregor is Deputy Public Service Commissioner and served on the Advisory Group until December 2009 while Acting Australian Public Service Commissioner. She joined the APS Commission as Deputy Commissioner in November 2008. She has held senior leadership roles in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and Centrelink. Ms McGregor has strong interests in cultural and organisational transformation, leadership strategy and human resource development.
Mr Stephen Sedgwick
Mr Sedgwick has served on the Advisory Group since being appointed Public Service Commissioner in December 2009. He has had a long and distinguished career in the public sector having served as the Secretary to the Commonwealth Departments of Finance and Education between 1992 and 2002. Mr Sedgwick was, most recently, Professor and Director of the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research at the University of Melbourne.
Ms Ann Sherry AO
Ms Sherry is Chief Executive of Carnival Australia, the largest cruise ship operator in the region. Prior to this she was the Chief Executive of Westpac in New Zealand and Chief Executive of the Bank of Melbourne. She also has an extensive public sector background, having been the Head of the Office of the Status of Women in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and having held a number of senior roles in the Victorian Public Service.
Mr Nick Warner PSM
Mr Warner was appointed as the Director-General of ASIS in August 2009. Prior to this he was the Secretary of Defence. Mr Warner has held a number of senior positions in his 30 year career of public service. He was the Senior Adviser (International) to the Prime Minister (2005-2006). Mr Warner has previously held several senior management and policy positions within the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Professor Patrick Weller AO
Professor Weller is the Premier of Queensland Chair of Public Management and director of the Centre for Governance and Public Policy at Griffith University. He is the author, co-author or editor of some 36 books on Australian politics and comparative institutions. He recently co-authored a report for the Queensland Government on government boards, commissions and statutory authorities.
