Surplus (Deficit) attributable to the Australian Government

    (7,781) 18,686

The above statement should be read in conjunction with the accompanying notes.

Note: The operating deficit for 2006–07 reflects an overspend by APEC Taskforce of $9.3 million. The APEC Taskforce overspend is due to timing differences between revenue and expenses. APEC Taskforce achieved an operating surplus of $19.0 million in 2005–06. The operating loss will be funded from this surplus. Any surplus funds will be returned to the Official Public Account following the completion of the project. Refer to Note 11 for a breakdown of the department’s and APEC Taskforce income and expenses. If the APEC Taskforce overspend were excluded, the department would have incurred an operating surplus of $1.5m in 2006–07.
