
- Prime Minister, John Howard, holds a meeting of the National Security
Committee of Cabinet (NSC), the main decision-making body on national
security issues. Certain departmental secretaries and agency heads also
attend meetings of the Committee. The photo was taken when General Peter
Cosgrove, AC, MC attended his last meeting as Chief of the Defence Force
prior to his retirement. The department provides secretariat support
to the NSC and the supporting Secretaries’ Committee on National
