In August 2007 the Secretary endorsed the department’s Environmental Policy Statement and Green Commitment for 2007-2008. Through this policy and commitment the department aimed to reduce its impact on the environment and comply with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, policies and initiatives.
The policy is the driver for the department’s new Environmental Management System (EMS) at One National Circuit, Barton, ACT. The EMS has been developed in line with International Standard for Environmental Management Systems ISO14001:2004.
The Green Commitment is reviewed and updated annually and outlines the areas where the department and staff can make a difference in reducing our environmental impact in a simple practical way on a day-to day-basis.
